The Jigawa state government has rolled out an ambitious plan to ensure that no one goes hungry during this sacred month, with a target of serving more than 8 million meals to the needy in the state under 2026 Ramadan Feeding program that has already commenced across the state

Speaking at the flag-off of the distribution of Ramadan packages to civil servants, the state governor, His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi, said his government regards civil servants as critical partners in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people and transforming Jigawa into a great state.

He noted that the Ramadan package is part of the special welfare offered to civil servants across all state government ministries and parastatals.

Governor Namadi emphasized his government’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to all people of the state. He however called on the general public to be their brothers’ keepers.

“Ramadan is a month of compassion, humanity, mercy, generosity, and care for one another. Everyone has something to offer. Therefore, I urge everyone to abide by the teachings of the Prophet by being their brothers’ keepers,” Governor Namadi stated.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Auwal D. Sankara, said the state government’s Ramadan welfare package targets 6,200 civil servants from across 102 state government ministries and agencies. The package includes 25kg bags of rice, beans, maize, and one carton of spaghetti.

Hon. Sankara further revealed that the Ramadan feeding exercise has already commenced across the 27 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the Ramadan Feeding (Iftar) Programme aims to support vulnerable residents and ensure access to nutritious meals during the holy month.

“A total of 640 feeding centres have been opened across the state, with two centres in each of the 287 political wards, in addition to centres in higher institutions, correctional facilities, and humanitarian shelters to ensure inclusivity and broad access.”

“The programme is expected to provide meals to over 264,600 people daily. Over the course of Ramadan, this will amount to more than 8 million meals served to the neediest.”

“To ensure inclusiveness, 552 Tsangaya schools have been selected for Ramadan feeding. It is now conducted in collaboration with Alarammas (Tsangaya tutors) to ensure all the Almajiris there receive good meals for their Ramadan breakfast,” Hon. Sankara stated.
