WBCD: Jigawa Governor’s Wife Advocates Regular Breast Cancer Screening

The Wife of the Jigawa State Governor, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi, has participated in a health walk to raise awareness about the threat of breast cancer in the state, urging women to undergo regular medical screening.

Hajiya Amina walked through the capital city of Dutse on Sunday, October 25th, as part of the activities marking the 2025 World Breast Cancer Day. The event was held under the theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

The celebration also included a public lecture by medical professionals on the measures needed by women, families, and communities to tackle breast cancer, which kills thousands of women annually worldwide.

In her speech, Hajiya Amina Namadi encouraged women to visit the nearest health facilities for regular medical check-ups and to seek immediate medical intervention upon noticing any signs of breast cancer.

“The Jigawa State government has upgraded over 180 primary healthcare facilities, in addition to many secondary and tertiary facilities, to ensure access to basic healthcare for everyone in the state,” she stated.

“Furthermore, we will continue to collaborate with the federal government, partners, and all stakeholders to raise awareness about breast cancer and ensure the accessibility and affordability of medical treatment for every woman in Jigawa State and beyond,” Mrs. Namadi added.

A resource person at the public lecture, Dr. Halima Hashim, identified several factors that can cause breast cancer, including heredity, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and a lack of a balanced diet.

She explained that to combat the disease, women should uphold the practice of regular check-ups and screening for early detection and timely treatment.
