Gumel Emirate foundation of Jigawa state has celebrated the extraordinary national patriotism, community service and legacies of former National Chief of Defense Intelligence and Minister of Transport late General Dahiru Ibahim Gumel and other prominent people from the Emirate.
Late General ID Gumel who was CDI and Transport Minister during the former military president General Muhammad Sani Abacha was celebrated at a maiden memorial lecture organized in his honour held in the ancient city of Gumel.
Speaking at the occasion the chairman of the occasion Alhaji Bashari Muhammad Gumel said, the occasion was initiated to immortalize the legacy, selfless community services of late Dahiru Gumel.
He explained that, beside his sacrifice to national service throughout his military carrier and in the National Military provisional council , late Gumel was an icon in promoting community service in the Emirate and beyond.
According to him Gumel Emirate foundation was lunched by General ID Gumel with N500 million in 1992, the foundation had so far made an everlasting impacts to the development of the Emirate, including the Educational support to many youth who are now excelled in various discipline and human endeavor including medical doctor, engineer, educationiests and other professionals.
In his side the federal minister of Defense Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar described the late General ID Gumel as a symbol of military honour, service to humanity, “He served the nation with high pedigree”.
“The contribution of late Gumel to Nigerian Military development, national infrastructures, Jigawa state and Gumel Emirate is worth emulation and it will remain indelible in the annals of history” Hon Badaru Stated.
In his speech the Emir of Gumel His Highness Dr Ahmad Muhammad Sani said, General Dahiru Ibahim Gumel was among the great sons of the Emirate whose enduring legacies will continue to be source of inspiration to the young generation.
The emir than commend the organizers of the memorial lecture and urged the people of the Emirate and beyond to use the occasion for sobar reflection into the virtues of late General ID Gumel and build their reputation and sustainable legacy,.
The wife of late ID Gumel Hajiya Laraba Ibrahim Gumel received the ward of honour and appreciation on behalf of the family.
General ID Gumel died in 1999 and was Former chief of Defense Intelligence between 1991-1995 and Minister of Transport between 1995- 1998 . Among his legacies including laid foundation for resustating and revamping Nigerian railways, Initiated purpose dredging of River Nigeria to decongest coastal ports among others.
