Flood and rainstorm occured at 10 local government area of Jigawa state had killed 16 people displaced 3,986 and washed away over 2,744 hecters of farmland.
The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Haruna Mariga, revealed this while given an update of the flood disaster, that has sofar affected 10 Local Government Areas of the State.
He explained that, though the 2024 raining season is not yet reach its pick but the damage recorded so far was very alarming, and there is much fear of aggravating the situation as water level keep increasing.
Mr Mairiga said the adversary effects flood on agricultural and other people livelihoods is very much, therefore there is need for an urgent intervention to the victims.
Dr Mairiga noted that, the state government in collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have started distributing relief material which included food items to the victims.
” As we continue assessing the level of damages in collaboration with NEMA, we are also taken more measure including public enlightenment, construction of embankment to minimize the damages that might have cause by the flooding in the state”
” 7 Temporary Internally Displaced Person Camp have sofar established while some victims chose to take refugee at the residents of their brothers that was not affected by rainstorm or flooding “
” Moreso besides the Local government emergency response team, the Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi has directed for the establishment of such commit accross all the 280 ward, for effective and timely response to any emergency call” ES stated
The state government has also stocked our stores to ensure timely delivery of emergency relief materials to the victims of an expected flooding around 17-18 local government area of the state.
