Hundreds of PDP, NNPP Members Defect to APC in Jigawa

over 500 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), including executive members, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Sakwaya ward of Dutse Local Government Area. Jigawa state

 

This move is part of a wave of defections affecting opposition parties across all 27 local government areas of the state.

 

While receiving the decampees at a political gathering held on Thursday 9th October 2025 at Sakwaya ward , the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Abdullah Tsoho Garba, reiterated the commitment of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s administration to promoting the well-being of citizens and laying a foundation for sustainable growth and development.

 

He stated that since assuming office, Governor Namadi has operated an all-inclusive government, making significant investments in public infrastructure, human capital development, and improving public service delivery to achieve a more prosperous Jigawa State.

 

Comrade Abdullah told the decampees that the transformation agenda of Governor Namadi is already yielding visible results and assured them they would continue to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

 

In his remarks, the member representing Dutse constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Tasiu Soja, welcomed the decampees into the APC and assured them of equal opportunity and treatment alongside all party members.

 

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, the former PDP chairman for Sakwaya ward, Malam Danazumi Yakubu, explained that they decided to leave their party for the APC because of the all-inclusive, focused, and purposeful leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, which is transforming the lives of the people of Jigawa.

 

“We joined the APC to contribute our own quota to building a prosperous and great Jigawa under the realistic 12-point agenda and sincere commitment of Governor Malam Umar Namadi. The mission is on the right course, and we did not want to be left behind,” Malam Yakubu declared.

 

Prominent among the decampees were PDP State stakeholder Alhaji Garba Dankwashan (Sarkin Fawa), Sakwaya Ward Secretary Abdulrahim Zobiya, Sakwaya Ward Women Leader Hajiya Mariya, Sakwaya Ward Youth Leader Kabiru Jidawa, and the Polling Unit Chairmen of Gadarawa and Sabon Gari
