NAGGW Solicits Jigawa\u2019s Support to Combat Environmental Degradation<\/p>\n

The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) has called for increased support and collaboration with the Jigawa State Government in implementing its projects aimed at tackling global warming and environmental degradation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Director-General of NAGGW, Alhaji Saleh Abubakar, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Jigawa State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, in his office.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He explained that Jigawa is one of the 11 northern states where the agency is implementing various interventions to combat desertification and other environmental degradation factors.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Abubakar noted that the project focuses on reclaiming land affected by desert encroachment, planting trees to enhance food security, improving environmental resilience, and empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods and eco-friendly energy and other materials linked to tree resources.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cOur intervention in Jigawa has already begun yielding encouraging results, particularly in community involvement in combating deforestation and promoting afforestation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWe commend the Jigawa State Government for its unwavering support since the project\u2019s inception. However, we advocate for stronger collaboration in policy formulation, practical implementation, and community engagement to assess ongoing interventions and identify new opportunities for sustainable land restoration under the Great Green Wall initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In his response, the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim Kazaure, acknowledged the strong partnership between NAGGw and the Jigawa State Government. He thanked the agency for selecting Jigawa as the first state for its advocacy visit.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Jigawa State Government is committed to supporting NAGGW in achieving its mandates, which align with His Excellency Governor Umar Namadi\u2019s 12-Point Agenda,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He urged the agency to strengthen strategies to prevent vandalism of its projects by enhancing community engagement and further collaboration with the state government.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The delegation later visited Suleiman Farms to inspect date palm seedlings being cultivated as part of NAGGW\u2019s initiative to plant five million date palm trees across the 11 frontline states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
